I have been recently jamming with a band and have been using my AC30. Although the sound is fantastic shall we say there are a few drawbacks, the main ones being its bloody heavy and far too loud. So I decided I needed to get a cheep low weight cab for practicing, I thought 2 x 10 or a 1 x12 should do the trick so off I went to scour the internet for offers. Soon I came across the Laney GS210VE cab, there was a nice offer for £120 and it comes with Jensen C10Q16s, which all the reviews say are not bad speakers. It turned up the next day and I took it to practice, its looks well built and its light and easy to load in the car, so all good so far. I plugged in the Bivalve not expecting anything fantastic, but too my surprise, it sounded very good, and proceeded to get better as the practice progressed and the speakers broke in. I am very impressed with it, punchy and articulate, a little on the bright side, but a little fiddle with the tone on the amp and that sorted that out very nicely. The amp was set-up with 2 6v6s to lower the volume and to be honest it was just right, I could run it just on break up level with out the drummer and bassist screaming at me to turn it down. I am quite impressed with its performance to cost level and I thinks its defiantly a good buy.

Interesting that your new setup is so much quieter. I guess two 6V6s versus four EL84s has something to do with it, but I wonder whether the speakers are less efficient as well.

Good point, did some checking and it seems the C10Qs have a sensitivity of 95.2 dB. Not sure what the norm is, but I have a G10 Celestion that’s 97db and an Eminence 102 that’s 95db, so it seems average. Although I must admit the G10 seems a lot louder than the 102, also the Vox has original blues in it and I think that they are 100db, add that together with the 12” as opposed to 10” and that would explain the reduction in volume. All I know is that the guys in the band are grateful for the drop in volume and my back is extremely grateful for the lack of strain.
